What are Telltales?
Telltales are the “bits of string” that that are used to read the flow of air across the sails on a sailboat (see image below). These bits of string enable one to essentially ‘read’ the wind and adjust the sails to maximize the speed of the boat.
On the podcast we discuss the bits of information we use to analyze and assess various investments. The bits of information that we regularly discuss include energy market data (oil and gas prices, renewables, etc), macroeconomic data (fiscal and monetary conditions, etc), and technology (ai, machine learning, semiconductors, SaaS, eCommerce, etc). We memorialize these bits of information in the Cashflow Memo (see below), which subscribers receive each week in their inbox.
How it all Started
Before it became a podcast, Telltales was initially an in-person weekly meeting (10+ years running) hosted by my mentor and co-host, Mr. Lawrence. When the pandemic hit in 2020, the weekly in person meeting was forced to transition to a conference call. Not long after, Mr. Lawrence invited me to join him as his co-host. These calls are essentially a remote version of the same in person meetings previously held each week. More recently, Jason Wallace joined us as a co-host as well.
The Cashflow Memo
The Cashflow Memo is a ~20 page document with summary financials on ~70 companies across industries and sectors. On each episode, we discuss pages from the memo - so it is a good idea to have it in front of you while listening. As a subscriber, you will receive the latest Cashflow Memo each week in your inbox when a new episode is published.
The Podcast
The Telltales podcast is a simple recording of our weekly Wednesday call and is published shortly thereafter. In it, we discuss the Cashflow Memo. The podcast is available on...
In closing…
Becoming a successful investor is a life long pursuit. Telltales is a way for us to give back and an opportunity to be challenged and learn new things. Thank you for joining us and I look forward to interacting with you along the way.
